...e al contempo disastrosa dell'album e forse della carriera intera (Blind). Negli anni immediatamente successivi al vituperato The burning world la traiettoria musicale in realtà non cambia di molto, se non nella direzione di una ulteriore diluizione degli elementi industrial/noise/nichilismo già in precedenza prosaicamente annacquati (rimangono i primi iconoclastici minuti di Better than you che riportano al finimondo di Children of God, il bridge di Her, il finale di Miracle of love e poco altro). Il suono, ora modaiolamente dark alla maniera di Southern death cult raping the Sisters of mercy (Love of life, The golden boy that was swallowed by the sea), al limite pure Lou Reed (Song for the sun) e Jesus & mary chain (Love will save you, The sound of freedom), si dilunga in rarefazioni assortite, generalmente affidate alle sonnolente corde vocali di Madame Gira (When she breathes, Song for dead time), oppure un po' Talking heads di Brian Eno, un po' Nick Cave e un po' Crime & 5the city solution: quella roba che piace tanto a Wim Wenders, per intenderci (confrontate Failure con Listening wind dei T-H, o Her con I'll love you 'till the end of the world di N-C o ancora The most unfortunate lie con The adversary dei C-&-T-C-C). Così tanto a Wim Wenders quanto poco a voialtri. Non è vero?
