In its more than 30-year history, the Fumetto Comic Festival in Lucerne has grown from a small, regional event into one of the most important international comic festivals in Europe. In 2020 the festival was canceled for the first time due to Corona and in 2021 Fumetto celebrated 30 years. 2021 was also the year, the team hosted a hybrid festival for the first time as the pandemic was still spreading. In the hybrid form, the Comic Chat Cafe and other exciting hybrid projects such as Gassetto - a portable exhibition – were created. For the first time in the history of Fumetto, the opening would only take place online.
With around 40,000 visitors, it is now one of the biggest events in the city of Lucerne. In 2023, after a reorganization, Fumetto starts into the next festival season with a two-person management: In addition to the operational director Andrea Stammbach, artistic director a.i. Susann Wintsch will be responsible for the 2023 edition of the Fumetto Comic Festival before Lea Willimann takes over as artistic director starting with the 2024 edition.

Con i suoi 30 e più anni di storia, il festival Fumetto di Lucerna è nato come piccolo evento regionale per diventare uno dei più importanti festival di fumetto in Europa.
Nel 2020 il festival è stato cancellato per la prima volta a causa del Covid, e nel 2021 ha celebrato i suoi 30 anni.
Per il protrarsi della pandemia il 2021 è stato anche l’anno di un’edizione ibrida, in cui sono stati ideati il Comic Chat Cafe e altri progetti fra offline e online come Gassetto, un’edizione portatile. Per la prima volta l’apertura del festival ha avuto luogo solo online.
Con circa 40.000 visitatori, il festival è uno dei più grandi di Lucerna.
Nel 2023, dopo una riorganizzazione, Fumetto saluta una nuova stagione, con un management di due persone oltre la direttrice operativa Andrea Stammbach: Susann Wintsch è la direttrice artistica ad interim e nel 2024 la direzione artistica passerà a Lea Willimann.

The Fumetto Comic Festival will take place in Lucerne from March 18th to 26th, 2023. This year's theme "Home Sweet Home" runs as a common thread through the entire festival. The theme is enchanting, but at the same time poses the urgent question of home, be it in one's own body, be it in the country where we were born, or in the dwindling livability of our planet.
With a brilliant program of exhibitions and events, Fumetto transforms the city of Lucerne into the comic capital of Switzerland and Europe for nine days.

Questo affascinante argomento pone anche il focus sull’urgente tema dell’abitare, che sia nel proprio corpo, nel paese in cui si è nati, o sul nostro pianeta con la sua vivibilità perennemente in calo.
Con un brillante programma di mostre ed eventi, Fumetto trasforma per 9 giorni Lucerna nella capitale svizzera ed europea del Fumetto.
Festival Programme – Il programma del festival
The programme features readings, artist talks and workshops with the prominent artists presented in the main exhibitions and at the Fumettino children’s festival. Although the programme is conceived for a mature audience, it is also suitable for younger children in adult company.
Fundamentally, Fumetto is a family-oriented festival.
Furthermore, Fumetto also focuses on levelling the hierarchy of amateur and professional audiences. A quantum leap? By no means. For a long time now, the ninth art has been moving out of the universe of superheroes and children's stories into new worlds. Fumetto shows how the comic becomes great literature, how it uncovers new perspectives on the past, relentlessly records the present and yet remains a medium for young and old.

Il pubblico principale del festival sono gli adulti, ma è visitabile anche da bambini accompagnati. Per i bambini c’è anche un programma dedicato: il Fumettino.
Fumetto è, fondamentalmente, un festival per famiglie.
Uno degli obiettivi del festival è anche quello di livellare la distanza fra pubblico di amatori ed esperti di settore.
Un salto quantico? Nient’affatto.
Per molto tempo la nona arte è andata oltre supereroi e storie per bambini per approdare ad altri mondi. Il festival mostra come i fumetti siano diventati letteratura che svela prospettive diverse sul passato e documenta inesorabilmente il presente, rimanendo un medium per bambini e adulti.

Exhibitions – Le mostre principali
The artists of the 2023 festival edition have created new comic novels and works of art in a time of uncertainty. Their efforts reflect the vast scope of the time – ranging from conflicts to absurd worlds. And yet the artists also see hope on the horizon.
They neither give up poetry, the magic of imagination nor the vision of peaceful and successful coexistence. They are looking for new communities and in the exhibitions for the public they explore the question of what constitutes the sweetness of home, which «Home Sweet Home» suggests.
Gli artisti e le artiste in mostra in questa edizione hanno creato storie e opere d’arte in un periodo di incertezza. I loro sforzi riflettono questo lasso di tempo, in un range di contenuti che va da conflitti a mondi assurdi. Con uno sguardo di speranza verso l’orizzonte.
Non rinunciano alla poesia, alla magia dell’immaginazione e nemmeno alla visione di una convivenza gratificante e pacifica. Cercano comunità nuove, e tramite le mostre esplorano per il pubblico la domanda su cosa renda una casa “dolce”, così come suggerito dal tema “Casa dolce casa”.
